China's economy grew a staggering 7.9% in the second quarter of 2009, the government said today.

"The economy is rebounding and the strength of the recovery is increasing," National Bureau Spokesman Li Xiaochao said.

China's gross domestic product grew by 7.1% in the first half of 2009 compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the bureau.
