Pay up

The adult national minimum wage went up by 15p on 1 October, which means almost 900,000 workers have had a pay rise. Employers will now have to pay adults over the age of 21 £6.08 per hour instead of £5.93, while 18 to 20-year-olds will get £4.98, up from £4.92.

Companies with workers aged between 16 and 17 will have to pay them £3.68 per hour, instead of £3.64, and the apprentice rate for those under the age of 19 has gone up by 10p to reach £2.60 per hour.
